Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended 87 government officials for failing to attend an official function. The suspended officials include commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants, and permanent secretaries.

The governor’s spokesperson, Monday Uzor, announced the suspension in a statement, noting that the affected officials would proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary. The suspension takes immediate effect, and the officials are barred from signing any official documents during this period.

The suspended officials include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries. The commissioners have been instructed to hand over their responsibilities to their respective permanent secretaries.

The officials were suspended for failing to attend an important government function, highlighting the governor’s emphasis on attendance and commitment to official duties.

The suspension takes immediate effect, and the officials are expected to comply with the directive. The governor’s action demonstrates his commitment to discipline and accountability within the state government.

The suspension of such a large number of officials could potentially impact government operations in Ebonyi State. However, the governor’s directive for commissioners to hand over to permanent secretaries aims to ensure continuity and minimize disruptions.

The governor’s directive emphasizes the importance of attendance and commitment to official duties. The suspension serves as a warning to other officials to adhere to expectations and avoid similar sanctions.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function,” the statement read.

Mr Uzor emphasised that the governor remains firm in ensuring all government officials uphold the highest standards of conduct and dedication in serving the people of Ebonyi State.
