The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir and Sarkin Katsina of the Gusau Emirate. This appointment comes after the passing of his father, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who died on July 25, 2025, after a decade-long reign.

The appointment was made based on the traditional recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers, in accordance with established customs and relevant laws. The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announced the development, highlighting the importance of tradition in the appointment process.

The new Emir, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, is the eldest son of the late monarch. Before his appointment, he held the revered traditional title of Bunun Gusau. His ascension to the throne is seen as a continuation of his family’s legacy in the emirate.

Governor Lawal congratulated the new Emir on his appointment and urged him to uphold the noble legacy of his forefathers. As a direct descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, the governor emphasized the importance of maintaining the family’s tradition and values.

The appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir is significant, not only for the Gusau Emirate but also for the state of Zamfara. It reflects the government’s commitment to respecting traditional institutions and customs.

The transition is expected to be smooth, with the new Emir taking over the reins of the emirate. The government and the people of Zamfara State look forward to the new Emir’s leadership and vision for the development and prosperity of the Gusau Emirate.
